Xcel Energy has a long history of strengthening communities by supporting the environment, education, and arts and culture.
In 2003, as a part of this commitment, Xcel Energy turned to VolunteerMatch to make it easier for their employees to volunteer.
"For Xcel Energy, giving back to the communities where we work, live and serve is a corporate priority," said Xcel Energy Foundation Director, John Pacheco.
Coordinating and administering a national program, however, can be time consuming and frustrating. VolunteerMatch's business services help make employee volunteer programs more manageable and more responsive to the needs of local communities. VolunteerMatch plugs neatly into existing corporate intranets and serves as a convenient platform to support and manage community involvement initiatives without all the administrative headaches.
In September 2003, Xcel Energy launched its service to connect 14,600 employees to thousands of volunteer opportunities nationwide. For Xcel Energy VolunteerMatch was the solution.
John Pacheco explained, "Last year, our employees volunteered 12,345 hours for 118 organizations nationwide, and with the VolunteerMatch service, we hope to volunteer even more this year."
